This article documents fixes in the case where your machine's bill validator is not taking in notes.
If it's taking in notes but rejecting them, instead please see the article: 'Bill validator rejecting notes'
Power cycling
While restarting the machine may help, the bill validator itself maintains power throughout machine reboots. Thus, we should start by power cycling the bill validator to fully reset it.
First, switch off the machine by following the Powering On/Off guide for your machine.
After around 10 seconds when the machine's screen has gone completely black, unplug the machine from wall power for 15 seconds. Then, plug back into wall power.
When the machine returns to the 'Hello' screen, conduct a test transaction.
Cash box connection
The cash box may not be fully inserted. Remove the cash box from the vault, then insert gently yet firmly into the validator untill it clicks into place.
The validator should make its startup and cash box engagement noise as it initialises. If not, continue below.
Checking for obstructions
There may be an obstruction along the bill path. To check:
Open the machine and vault doors. Locate two hex screws atop the plate surrounding the intake mouth of the validator.
Remove these screws with the hex screwdriver included with the key pack that shipped with your machine.
Then, remove the metal front plate by tilting it forward, gently pushing in on the validator mouth, and lifting the plate up and out.
Locate the green tab above the mouth and below the cash box. Lift up on the green tab to release the bottom half of the validator and pull towards you. The cash box and upper half of the validator should remain in the vault, but the lower portion will be removed.
With the lower validator now out, press the green button on the front of the validator and remove the head.
Open the head by pressing on the green tabs on both sides. Check for obstructions.
Open the back hatch of the validator transport to check for obstructions.
While disassembled, you may also clean the sensors with a dry, microfiber cloth. This is recommended on a monthly / bi-monthly basis. (See attached preventative maintenance guide.)
Reassemble, reconnect, and carefully replace the validator into the vault.
Indicator lights
If the above steps do not allow the validator to take in notes, please note the color and frequency of any lights displayed on the front of the validator (with the metal vault plate removed), and contact support to check your machine's logs.
